RUG CARE

Caring for your rug properly is essential to keeping it looking good and extending its lifespan. Here are some tips for taking care of your rug:

MAINTENANCE

It is a good idea to turn the rug around twice a year to avoid uneven wear and to place e.g. plastic or felt protection under the feet of heavy furniture standing on the rug.

Note that the colors may fade if the rug is exposed to strong sunlight for a longer period of time.

DAILY CLEANING

Use the vacuum cleaner frequently when the rug is new. It is normal that the rug produces shed fluff for a period of time. Vacuum in the direction of the plie and never with the brush down.

USE AN UNDERLAY

In order to avoid staining from the floor it is recommended to use an underlay.

Rugs in warp repp technique should always have an underlay.

The use of an underlay also assures that the rug lies even and prolongs the lifetime of the rug

HOW DO YOU REMOVE STAINS FROM RUGS?

Many of the stains come from liquids we drink, and they are often acidic (have a pH of 2-6). Sparkling water is also acidic and has a pH of around 5, and since acidic products in several cases can dissolve stains with acidic content, it is a good idea to try sparkling water.

It is easiest to remove stains on rugs with sparkling water, while the stains are as fresh as possible. Do like this:

1. Dissolve the stain with a little sparkling water right after the stain has appeared on the rug.

2. Gently pat on the stain with a clean cloth, avoiding rubbing hard, as this will only cause the stain to penetrate the fibers of the rug.

3. Place a paper towel on the rug where the stain was and let it soak up the rest of the sparkling water. You can also use a dry sponge.

If the stain has dried up, you may succeed in dissolving it with lukewarm water, and then treat it with sparkling water - depending on the stain in question.

CAN YOU REMOVE STAINS WITH POTATO FLOUR?

A good old advice is to pour potato flour on wet spots on rugs. The potato flour absorbs a lot of liquid, and it inhibits the contact of the active colors found naturally in foods, sweets, and liquids.

Therefore, it may be a good idea to start by pouring a little potato flour on patches of, for example, juice or wine, and let the potato flour soak a little of the liquid on the rug, which can then be vacuumed up. Next, an actual cleaning of the stain can be started. NB: Potato flour only, no other kinds of flour may be used.

HOW DO YOU REMOVE COFFEE STAINS?

Stains caused by spilled coffee can be dissolved with a little glycerin, also called glycerol.

Do like this:

1. Rub a little glycerin into the stain.

2. Wait a few hours and dab the stain with a cloth wrung up hard in cold water to remove glycerin and coffee.

3. Repeat the treatment, possibly several times, until the stain is reduced or completely gone. Note, stains from coffee with sugar are harder to remove than stains consisting of black coffee.
